Aurora BioScience Neurology VNS Therapy for Pharmacoresistant Epilepsy
This resource is intended to provide specific information regarding VNS Therapy™ and pharmacoresistant epilepsy for physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals.
What is VNS Therapy?
VNS
Therapy is an adjunctive therapy, which means it is used together
with another therapy, usually medication. It can reduce the
frequency of seizures in children, adolescents and adults who suffer
from partial onset seizures, with or without secondary
generalisation, or have generalised seizures that are refractory to
antiepileptic medications.
VNS Therapy in Australia and New Zealand
In
Australia and New Zealand, Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) Therapy is
indicated for use as an adjunctive therapy in reducing the frequency
of seizures in patients whose epileptic disorder is dominated by
partial seizures (with or without secondary generalisation) or
generalised seizures, which are refractory to antiepileptic
medication.1
