Aurora BioScience Neurology VNS Therapy for Pharmacoresistant Epilepsy
This resource is intended to provide specific information regarding VNS Therapy™ and pharmacoresistant epilepsy for physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals.
Long-term Continuation Rates
A recently published article in the Lancet compares the long-term continuation rates of VNS Therapy with the continuation rates of several of the newer AEDs, including levetiracetam. This comparison demonstrates that long-term continuation rates with VNS Therapy are remarkably better than long-term continuation rates with other treatments for pharmacoresistant epilepsy. After 3 years, approximately 72% of patients choose to continue with VNS Therapy whereas approximately 70% of patients discontinue their drug therapy.1
